現代の最新技術を用いて大正12年へタイムスリップ
1890年（明治23年）東京 浅草公園内に八角形平面・12階建ての展望塔 凌雲閣が竣工しました。ウイリアム.Ｋ.バルトン氏の基本設計によるもので、10階まで煉瓦造、11、12階は木造でした。日本で初めてエレベータを備えた建物であり、当時の日本にはまだ珍しい高層建築であったため「雲の峰、凌雲閣に並びけり（正岡子規）」と詠まれ民衆に親しまれていました。しかし、1923年（大正12年）の関東大震災の際、8階より上部が崩壊、その後爆破処理され、この建物は消滅しました。
鹿島は防災意識の啓蒙を目的に、ひとつの試みを行いました。 すなわち現代の最新の耐震・制震技術を大正12年にタイムスリップさせ、この凌雲閣を煉瓦造のまま救うこととしました。
